Common Reasons for Pursuing Breast Reduction

Many women who are interested in undergoing a breast reduction are unhappy with their appearance because of their disproportionately large breasts. They may feel like the balance of their figure is completely thrown off, or they may feel that their large breasts draw too much attention.

Some women struggle to find bras, shirts, swimsuits, and other tops that fit because of the large size of their breasts. Many women also pursue breast reduction because their large breasts have a sagging appearance and hang low on their chests.

Several physical issues can also occur as a result of large breasts. The strain that the weight of their breasts places on their body can cause chronic muscle and joint pain. Many women with disproportionately large breasts experience pain in the following areas:

  • Neck
  • Back
  • Shoulders
  • Chest

Large breasts can also make it difficult to perform physical activities such as bending over, running, and working out. In many of these cases, breast reduction surgery can provide relief from these issues.

Patients in search of breast reduction and lift should be aware that breast reduction surgery provides a natural lifting and reshaping of the breasts. This results in lighter and perkier breasts that do not sag.

Breast Reduction Surgery

Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia. It is an outpatient procedure that will be performed in a surgery center or hospital in the Charleston, SC, area. Before the procedure, there will be an initial consultation with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jason Ulm.

During the consultation, Dr. Ulm will perform an examination of your breasts and evaluate your overall health. The two of you will discuss your reasons for pursuing breast reduction and your desired results. From there, Dr. Ulm will formulate a personalized surgical plan.

During the procedure, incisions will be made to allow for the removal of excess skin, glandular tissue, and fat. The remaining tissue will be precisely shaped so that the breasts have a rounder and more youthful appearance with contours that better complement your natural figure. The nipples and areolae will also be lifted to ensure that they are in a position that looks natural. Areola reduction may be necessary to better fit the breasts’ new proportions.

I found Dr.Ulm online, and considered him for my breast reduction surgery. I went in for consultation August 24th. During consultation Dr.Ulm took his time with me and thoroughly explained the procedure. He also answered all my questions as well, and his nurse Teresa was great. I got the surgery done September 15th! I was in and out in no time. Dr.Ulm did an AMAZING job on my breast reduction, it looks fabulous! I couldn’t be more thankful and I am beyond satisfied. Not to mention, I no longer have anymore neck, back, and shoulder pain. Yay!!!!!!

Recovering from Breast Reduction

Once the breasts have been reshaped and reduced in size, the incisions will be sutured shut. A special surgical bra should be worn during the recovery process to provide additional support and care while the incisions heal, and the breast tissue recovers. You should take a week off from work to allow your body to properly heal.

Bruising, swelling, and discomfort are to be expected. Medication can be provided to help reduce the amount of discomfort experienced. The bruising should dissipate after a few weeks. The swelling will reduce over time and can last for six to twelve months. Look over our breast reduction before and after photos to better understand how your final results may look.

How Much Does a Breast Reduction Cost?

Breast reduction is a specialized procedure that can be performed in a number of different ways.
