Exclusive Focus on the Face
Dr. Funcik has dedicated his entire career to facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. By limiting his practice to the face, he brings an exceptional level of depth, precision, and consistency to every procedure.
Patients often seek him out for complex primary and revision facial surgery, and other surgeons regularly refer difficult cases to him. His goal is not to create a “done” look, but to help patients appear well-rested, refreshed, and naturally like themselves.
Collaborative, Compassionate Care
Patients often describe Dr. Funcik as easy to talk to, attentive, and genuinely invested in their goals. He listens carefully, asks thoughtful questions, and approaches recommendations as if he were advising a family member. Rather than dictating a plan, he collaborates with patients to develop customized solutions based on their anatomy, concerns, and vision. This approach has been central to his practice since residency, when he was nominated by Cancer Service nurses as the resident who best exemplified collaborative patient care.
Innovator in Facial Rejuvenation
Dr. Funcik developed the Charleston Custom Lift® and the LowCountry Lid Lift®, trademarked procedures designed to improve results while shortening recovery. He has long been a pioneer in combining surgical expertise with advanced technology to achieve natural-looking outcomes.
When Botox was introduced, Dr. Funcik was the leading provider across South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and northern Florida, and became one of the first National Botox Trainers, eventually going on to educate more than 100 physicians. He was also the first physician in South Carolina to use Restylane, Dysport, Sculptra, and Artefill, and the first facial plastic surgeon in Charleston to offer in-office endoscopic minimal incision surgery.
Trusted Educator and National Trainer
Dr. Funcik is currently an Assistant Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina, where residents regularly observe his surgical techniques and rank rotating with him as one of their top educational experiences. He has trained more than 100 physicians and is the only MD in South Carolina selected by all five major injectable manufacturers to train other doctors.
As one of a small group of Sculptra National Trainers, he now focuses primarily on advanced instruction for board-certified facial plastic surgeons, plastic surgeons, and dermatologists.

Research & Service
Dr. Funcik’s research on decreasing postoperative swelling earned the Ben Shuster Memorial Award for outstanding research in facial plastic surgery. He continues to publish, present, and conduct research aimed at improving healing, minimizing scars, and enhancing outcomes. He was also elected to the Channel Four Hall of Fame for his work with the AAFPRS Face to Face program, which involves providing reconstructive facial surgery for victims of domestic abuse.
