Education & Training
Dr. Jason Ulm completed his general surgery residency before being recruited to a plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed a highly sought-after fellowship in aesthetic and craniofacial surgery at Harvard/Massachusetts General Hospital under Dr. Michael Yaremchuk. During this fellowship, he gained expertise in facial cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, craniofacial surgery, and complex anatomic reconstruction, and served as an Instructor in Surgery at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Ulm later returned to Charleston as a staff member at MUSC, where his clinical focus included breast reconstruction and microsurgery; craniofacial surgery (including cleft lip and palate, craniosynostosis, and craniomaxillofacial reconstruction); and aesthetic surgery of the face, breast, and body. He currently serves as an Associate Professor of Surgery, is an active member of the Cleft and Craniofacial Clinic and Advanced Breast Reconstruction Program, and acts as a consultant in plastic surgery at local hospitals throughout the Charleston area.
Complex, High-Stakes Work
Dr. Ulm is notably trained in two of the most complex procedures in plastic surgery: DIEP flap breast reconstruction and craniofacial reconstruction. That level of training allows him to take on challenging revision cases, secondary and tertiary surgeries, and reconstruction. Many revision patients come to Dr. Ulm after difficult experiences elsewhere and describe his work as life-changing, not only because of the outcomes, but because they finally feel understood.
